How is Garden Furniture Improving?
Long gone are the days when garden furniture meant a cheap wooden picnic table with wonky legs, a white plastic dining set, and a rusty iron bench. In 2018, we are experiencing years of development in the garden furniture industry where furniture is now stylish, comfortable and unique.
The biggest development in garden furniture has been the amount of materials used and the shapes these new materials can create. Cast aluminium, fabric, and synthetic rattan are just some of the materials developed in modern times to be used for stylish garden furniture. These materials, particularly rattan can be shaped into many different styles allowing us to offer more than just your standard dining set or garden bench. You can now experience styles such as comfortable sofa sets, corner sofas, casual dining sets, daybeds, sun loungers, and more.
These new styles are also available in a range of different sizes, as opposed to a one size fits all attitude. Every garden is different in shape and size and every family has different needs, so it is important that there are options available for every occasion, ranging from small bistro sets for two to large dining sets that could seat 10+.
Previously, garden furniture has not been fit for purpose, with wood furniture discolouring or going mouldy when damp, and plastic furniture being too light to stay where you want it. This meant that many people had to find space to store their garden furniture away when not in use. However, with the development of these new materials, most styles of garden furniture are completely weatherproof and can be left outside all year round.
Most synthetic rattan furniture is made with powder coated aluminium frames, which do not rust, and PE rattan which does not crack or go brittle when exposed to extreme cold temperatures, which means the furniture can be left outside all year round. Before the development of synthetic rattan, many people would opt for real rattan or real wicker furniture which is not suited to the British climate as it rots in damp conditions, now this synthetic version is well protected and suitable for year-round use.
Another great development in weatherproof furniture has been weatherproof fabric. Now it is entirely possible to enjoy the comfort of a luxury sofa, year-round, in your garden. Nova Outdoor Living has partnered with Sunbrella to bring you completely weatherproof fabric designs that are both water and stain repellent.
Additionally, whilst many metal garden furniture materials are associated with rust and being too hot to actually sit on, the use of cast aluminium for garden furniture has improved the reputation of metal furniture. Cast aluminium does not rust and does not heat up like other metals in the sun, making it comfortable to sit on in all weathers.
Garden furniture has also come a long way in terms of colours offered. It used to be just natural colours, whites and greens that were available but with the introduction of these new materials colours like grey and white wash are available in rattan and there are even some brighter colours available in weatherproof fabric.
We expect that garden furniture is only going to develop further, with yet more materials being introduced and further improving our outdoor experiences as well as the look of our gardens. The garden has become an extended part of our homes instead of a separate entity and we expect this will continue in years to come.
If you wish to view any of the furniture mentioned above, we have showrooms located around the UK which are open for you to view and test the furniture as well as get advice from our friendly sales advisors.
