Rattan garden furniture comes in all shapes and sizes and with so much choice people are often lost on what furniture is best for them and what will suit their needs. Here is some great information to help you narrow down what it is you need, want and will enjoy for years to come.

Colour

Rattan garden furniture is available in many different colours, including brown, grey, black, whitewash, natural and chestnut. By far the most popular colours in rattan are brown and grey, these being the most traditional colours. Brown is a very safe option to choose as it goes with most gardens and never looks out of place. In recent years, grey has overtaken brown as the most popular colour choice for rattan furniture as it works just as well as the brown colour but offers a more modern feel.

Black rattan was very popular a few years ago as one of the original colour choices for rattan. However, is becoming more and more difficult to buy now as less and less retailers are offering black rattan, so your choices will be limited.

Natural is also a very traditional colour that is a great choice for those looking for something a bit lighter to help brighten up their garden. Whereas, whitewash and chestnut are quite new colours and may only be available from certain retailers.

Size

The size of your rattan garden furniture set will depend on several things: the size of your garden, the amount of people in your household, and the main purpose of your garden furniture.

If you have a small garden, we recommend opting for a space saving set such as a cube set, which can be tucked away, or a dining set with stacking chairs which can be stacked up and placed out of the way. This will allow you to optimise your space without sacrificing your furniture and choosing a tiny set that doesn’t suit your needs.

If you have a large garden and space is not a concern, then you must consider the amount of people in your household and the purpose of the furniture. For example, if you only have 4 people in the house and the only people using this furniture will be those 4 people, a 4-seat dining set or sofa set will suit you perfectly well. However, if you are planning on throwing regular garden parties you may want a larger 8-seat dining set, or a large corner sofa set which will offer space for more guests.

Shape

Choosing the shape of your rattan garden furniture will likely come down to the shape of your garden, followed by your preference and again the purpose of the furniture. With many shapes to choose from you will never be limited to just one option.

For example, if you are looking for a dining set you will not only have the option of the number of seats you require but you will also have the option of a round table, square table, oval table or a rectangular table. If you are looking for a lounge/sofa set, you will be able to choose how many seats you would like the sofa to have and whether you prefer a sofa or a corner sofa. You will also be able to choose whether you would like to combine your choice of sofa with a coffee table for simply lounge purposes, or a casual dining table which gives you the option to both relax and enjoy al fresco dining.

For those with the space, we recommend a corner sofa with a casual dining table as this offers the best of both worlds and can be used for many occasions.

Weave

When looking at rattan furniture you will find yourself confronted with the choice of many different weave options. There are benefits to each different choice and ultimately it usually comes down to your own preference over how each weave looks.

Flat weave is the most common weave available on the market as it is the lightest of all the weaves. So long as the flat weave is made from PE or HDPE materials then this furniture will be incredibly durable and long-lasting. Lesser quality sets, made from PVC or PU will not be as durable.

Rod weave is a heavier option which offers an increased durability and often a longer lifespan against natural wears and tears.

Half-round weave finds itself in between the two, a combination of both techniques that is both stylish and durable.

Warranty

When making your decision regarding your rattan garden furniture we always suggest looking into the warranty that each set offers. If you like to regularly replace your furniture, then a 1-year warranty is perfectly fine for your purposes. However, if you are looking for something that lasts then we recommend looking at sets with warranties upwards of 3 years.

Rattan garden furniture requires very little maintenance and can be incredibly long-lasting if you choose the right set. Those sets with long warranties are typically made with durable, high quality, PE rattan and powder coated aluminium frames which ensures that the furniture is 100% weatherproof and can be left outside all year round without damage.

Style

The style of rattan garden furniture you go for is entirely down to you. With so many different sets available such as dining sets, sofa sets, corner sofa sets, casual dining sets, sun loungers, cube sets, daybeds, and bistro sets, it is worth deciding on all of the other elements first and this will narrow down your options in your chosen style.
