When Summer arrives, the first thing many of us want to do is host a barbecue or garden party for all of our family and friends. So, in preparation for this big event, we’ve revealed our top tips for creating a garden that’s perfect for entertaining.

Thinking About Food

Don’t let your guests go hungry. In order to be able to entertain successfully in your garden, without having to abandon your guests and disappear into the kitchen every five minutes, you need an outdoor kitchen.

Your outdoor kitchen could be as simple as a barbecue or as extravagant as a built-in outdoor oven, refrigerator and drinks holders. As long as you have somewhere to cook and prepare meals outdoors, how you layout your outdoor kitchen is up to you.

Take The Weight Off

There’s no use cooking up tonnes of food if you’re guests don’t have anywhere to eat it. Not many people enjoy standing and eating, as that means they can’t also hold their drink, so having a place for your guests to sit and eat is important.

If you regularly have visitors, then a large round or rectangular dining table is perfect for you. If you only entertain rarely and spend most of your time in the garden relaxing, you may want to opt for a casual dining set instead. A casual dining set offers plenty of room for your guests to squeeze in together but means when it is just you and your immediate family, you have plenty of space to sprawl out and relax.

Evening Drinks

If you have the space, a great way to add something special to your garden and perfect for entertaining is a separate drinks space. Away from the formal dining area, a drinks area where you can relax with your favourite beverage and chat with your loved ones in a more comfortable space is ideal.

For this space we recommend a comfortable outdoor fabric sofa set, that will allow you to truly sink into the sofa and relax, partnered with an outdoor fire pit which is ideal for keeping your guests warm and creating a gentle and relaxed ambience which is perfect to accompany evening drinks.

If you don’t have the space for a completely separate space, then this is where a casual dining set with rising table will be perfect. The rising table allows you to swap between a casual dining table, perfect for eating meals, and a coffee table which makes it the perfect space for having those more relaxed drinks.

Let There Be Light

It’s no good having the space to extend your garden party well into the evening if you can’t see once it’s dark. Outdoor lighting is very important when it comes to entertaining and this can be achieved in multiple ways.

Firstly, an outdoor firepit will add lots of light, however, this will be limited to one space. So, a great way to add extra lighting is solar lighting all around the garden. Alternatively, if you don’t have space for a fire pit or don’t want to rely on good weather in order to light your outdoor space, our outdoor heaters double up as outdoor lighting which is perfect for all occasions.

Alternatively, you can opt for a parasol with LED lights. The parasol will offer plenty of protection in the daytime and as the evening draws in you can switch on the lights and allow your event to go on for longer.
