As a nation, we Brits are spending more and more time outdoors, choosing not to be deterred by our less tropical climate and instead adapting our gardens to suit our desire to spend time in the fresh air.

Across the market, there are many types of garden parasols available and knowing which one to purchase for your garden can be tricky. However, this quick and easy parasol guide will help you to make an informed decision on your purchase.

Type of Parasol

At White Stores, we offer three types of parasols which will help you to narrow down your selection. Firstly, we offer a classic wooden parasol that is typically used through the centre of a dining table, in conjunction with a weighted base. The second is an aluminium crank & tilt parasol that also works best through the centre of a dining table; and last but not least is the cantilever parasol which is a standalone parasol that covers larger areas.

Type of Garden Furniture

We recommend that the type of parasol you get will depend on the type of garden furniture you have. If you have a dining set, then you’re going to want a parasol that fits through the parasol hole in the centre of the dining table. Whereas if you have a sofa set or casual dining set, you are going to need a standalone parasol such as a cantilever parasol that will be able to cover the whole area.

Material

Not only does your parasol choice depend on the type of garden furniture but it also depends on the material. Our wooden parasols will look great with rattan furniture as it has a more traditional appearance, alongside complimenting colour choices such as brown and willow which can be found across our rattan collections.

If you’re looking for a more modern-day garden, then our aluminium parasols are made with contemporary outdoor spaces in mind, and will match a wider variety of furniture including aluminium, cast aluminium, rattan and fabric.

How It Works

When looking to purchase anything, you’ll want to know how it works, and a parasol is no different. For many people, how the parasol works may be the deciding factor when it comes to the choice of parasol.

Our wooden parasols; or garden umbrellas as some people call them, operate using a simple pulley system which many people enjoy, however, some people may find this system to be too basic and prefer a parasol that can be adjusted in several ways.

If you want more control when it comes to adjusting your parasol, then our crank and tilt aluminium parasols are opened and closed using an easy-to-use crank handle and can be adjusted to tilt using a quick release pin. Additionally, our cantilever parasols have unique features which include rotating 360°, multiple tilting angles and LED lights.

Colour

We always suggest matching your parasol to the colour of your furniture, particularly if you have a rattan furniture set. For example, a beige parasol will complement the beige colours on brown rattan furniture or grey with grey furniture.

If you have aluminium furniture, a beige, taupe, or grey canopy would be striking, or if you want to inject a bit of colour into your garden then there is an assortment of colours available including green, black, navy, and more!

Parasol Bases

Whenever you purchase a parasol, we always advise looking at the recommended weighted parasol base. As an example, parasols used in conjunction with a dining table will require less weight than standalone parasols.

Moreover, it’s worth ensuring that your parasol pole will fit your base. All our parasols have universal sized poles and will fit most parasol bases. Plus, most of our bases come with adjustable inserts to ensure that your parasol pole will fit.

Different Purpose

If you’re looking for parasols for commercial use in pubs, restaurants, schools, golf courses or other areas then we’re more than happy to supply large quantities of parasols.

Depending on the aesthetic, for pubs and restaurants, we would typically recommend wooden parasols as they are traditional and easy to operate. For golf courses, spas, gyms, and other leisure activities we would recommend aluminium parasols as they are easy to use and look much more modern and stylish.

No matter what you’re looking for, you can reach out to our stockists, Nova Outdoor Living, and rest assured you’ll receive the help needed to make the best choice for you and your business.
